Having beer and chips or tea and cakes while watching your favourite Netflix show is fine, but have you tried wine? We did and our experience was awesome. Friends share everything and we are here to share wines to get you started on your new habit.
Champagne
Must be a big movie/an exhilarating episode to bring in the big guns huh? Pastries and savory foods go really well with a glass or two of bubbly, there’s just something about butter and bubbles… We love Devaux Millésimé Brut 2009 and Pommery Cuvee Louise 2004 we think you will too!
White Wines
For people who do not like tannins or that "siap-siap" taste, white wines are your best friends.
Chardonnay
Usually when people think of white wines, they first think of Chardonnay. Considering its accessibility and affordability, we can see why it's so popular. We tried Glenelly Estate's The Glass Collection Chardonnay 2020 and The Hilt Vanguard Chardonnay 2015, both delish.
Riesling
Riesling is a popular choice if you like white wines with a flowery, almost perfumed, aromas as well as high acidity. Our top favourites are Rainer Wess Ried Kögl 1ÖTW Riesling 2017 and Huia Riesling 2016.
White Blends
Can't decide which type (or grape) to go for? Maybe a blend is your thing, a big beautiful blend of everything. We SWEAR the Illumination by Quintessa 2018 is one of the best and sold out in the winery. Hunky Dory Tangle 2019 is another one to try if you're into Gruner Veltliners and Sauvignon Blancs.
Red Wines
Glued to the screen? Us too. With our glass of red wine because reds are best served 14°C all the way to even room temperature. (Brings out the bouquet of the reds the warmer it goes)
Pinot Noir
Well known for its red fruit flavours and light body, Pinot Noir is for everyone. Easy breezy choices are Freeman Keefer Ranch Pinot Noir 2015 and Chapel Peak Pinot Noir 2017.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Grown in almost every continent, Cabernet Sauvignon is heavily used in Bordeaux wines and Californian Cult wines. Give Viña Casas del Toqui Single Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 and VASO by Dana Estates Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 a whirl.
Shiraz
The spicy mamas fruit forward flavours and a peppery warmth to your throat. Savour these slowly, Two Hands Bella's Garden Shiraz 2005 and By Farr Shiraz 2001.
Red Blends
Similar to the whites, there are tons of red wine blends. Enjoy it all with one silky smooth bottle like Ornellaia Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2019 and Quinta Sardonia 2015.
Sweet Wines
End the last episode with something sweet to cheer you up from that grand finale. We all need sweet endings like Domaine Laporte Estime 2014,
Tokaj-Hétszölö Édes Szamorodni 2017, Tokaj-Hetszolo Aszu 5 Puttonyos 2009 or even a tiny glass of Dutschke The Tawny 22 Year Old Port.
