If there's one thing you need to remember about Ridge Vineyards, it's that the winery has been selling exceptional single vineyard wines since 1962.
Ridge Vineyards dates back to 1885, when Dr Osea Perrone purchased 180 acres on Monte Bello Ridge. Fast forward to the 1976 Judgement of Paris, some of California's top Chardonnays and Cabernets outperformed some of the finest French wines. Monte Bello 1971 by Ridge Vineyards placed 5th at this event, making the estate and the California wine region internationally known. Ridge Vineyards is also the first popular California wine to implement a back label that lists all the additives found in wine. Additionally, Ridge grows organically to sustain its huge 18 vineyard plots, with Monte Bello Santa Cruz, Geyserville, and Lytton Springs among the top spots.
Ridge Vineyards Santa Cruz
High up the Santa Cruz Mountains, this vineyard produces Ridge's flagship Monte Bello wine, as well as a refreshing Chardonnay. Apricot, citrus, and pear aromas accompany the pale gold colour. An elegant palate is greeted by tropical fruit aromas and a refreshing acidity.
Ridge Vineyards Geyserville
Zinfandel has been produced at this location since 1966, and is now blended with Carignane, Petit Sirah, and Alicante Bouschet. Ruby colored, the wine has intense dark berry flavors, gravel earth, black licorice, mint and exotic spices. An impressive depth of flavor and well-defined tannins round out the lengthy finish.
Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs
First wine produced in 1972 with Zinfandel as the predominant grape and was blended with Petite Sirah, Carignane, and Mataro. The wine has a raspberry and pepper nose, layers of plum, blackberry and cocoa on the palate and lingering tannins. |

TASTING NOTES
|
Santa Cruz Mountains Estate Chardonnay 1996
"The most aromatically exotic vintage of the decade, bursting from the glass with an extravagant bouquet of cassis, cigar box, rich soil, roasted meats and decadent oriental spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, richly tannic and very intense, with a deep and tight-knit core and a bright line of acidity, concluding with a long, youthful finish." - The Wine Advocate, 96 points.

Geyserville 2001
"Rich and ageing beautifully, with exotic Asian spice and smoky, meaty aromas following through to sleek blackberry, tea and leathery sage flavours, which take on complexity and tannins on the finish."
- Wine Spectator, 91 points |
Lytton Springs 2001
"Firm, focused and concentrated, with a classy array of black plum, black cherry, cola, coffee, chocolate, blackberry, vanilla, spice and herb flavours. The wine is silky smooth, ripe and luxuriously long on the finish."
