One of the greatest standouts of the Super Tuscan wines is Ornellaia, produced along Tuscany's Maremma coast. Giving new life to French grapes, Ornellaia became one of Italy's most influential Bordeaux-style red wine makers since 1981.
In the present, members of the Frescobaldi family are taking excellent care of the winery to ensure the success of these great Italian wines internationally, showcasing a refined and creative approach that reflects the unique terroir.

Location, location, location
The vineyards of Ornellaia are situated near the Tuscan coast, which keeps the acidity in the grapes at an optimal level. The glistening Tyrrhenian Sea moderates hot summer temperatures while allowing cooler nights to slow the ripening process. Around 12,000 vines per acre are planted in Ornellaia's vineyards- like sardines in a can. This competition for water and nutrients, along with keeping the vines small and letting just a few bunches grow on each vine, improve the quality and concentration of grapes. Taste Test
In the estate's second white, Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia, French grapes are combined with Italian Vermentino and Verdicchio grapes to produce a fruity golden wine, perfumed with stone fruit, apple and honeydew.
Third wine, Le Volte dell’Ornellaia, is the winery’s only red wine that features Sangiovese, an Italian grape variety. A lovely blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon with vibrant notes of berries, roses and a full body.

Le Volte dell'Ornellaia 2019
“2019 gives us a Le Volte dell’Ornellaia with great balance and expressivity. With its bright ruby-red colour, intense scents of red berries and rose petals are clearly distinguishable on the nose, while on the palate the taste is full-bodied and enveloping, characterised by dense tannins and a vibrant acidity which make this a highly pleasant and enjoyable wine.”

Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia 2018
"The Ornellaia 2018 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia is a blend of 83% Sauvignon Blanc, 11% Vermentino and 6% Viognier. The wine pours from the bottle with a light golden hue and produces aromas of stone fruit, Golden Delicious apple and honeydew melon."
