Located in Santa Ynez Valley, a delightful part of California's Ballard Canyon appellation, Jonata is among the world's non-traditional winemakers who are making their mark. With laser focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah, along with their superb winemaking and holistic approach to their estate, Jonata wines are front and center of the emerging quality movement in California.
Other than grapes, you can also spot chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs, sheep, and even bees that produce pots of honey. Thanks to Jonata's farming model, the land is well-maintained without the use of pesticides or herbicides. Additionally, they produce their own olive oil from their communal garden and water is used prudently throughout the winery.
In 2004, Jonata's winemaker Matt Dees realised that against all odds, the right choice had been made by planting Syrah, Sangiovese and Bordeaux varieties. With a focus on producing fine red wines and a few white wines, the winery has been rewarded for its hard work as an increasing number of wines have caught the attention of international critics. Look forward to medium-full bodied reds that show a sensational purity of fruit, layered mid-palates, rising structure and tannic grip.

"The 2014 Fenix has a medium garnet-purple colour and nose of crushed black plums, blackberry compote and mulberries with hints of Chinese five spice, garrigue, rare beef and dried Mediterranean herbs.
