With origins dating back to 1985, Bodegas y Viñedos Artadi started out as a remarkable winemaking cooperative, deep in Álava. With a number of growers focused on cultivating their unique region, smallholding wines became increasingly popular. Since 1992, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle and his family have positioned Artadi as one of the top Rioja wineries for their innovative style and focus on distinctive vineyards. In the soils surrounding the historic village of Laguardia, the grapes grow from calcareous clay and limestone subsoils, free of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The unpredictable climate and dry farming practices are what give Artadi wines their characteristic transparency and smoothness of tannin.
