What is a vertical you ask? It is more or less tasting a few vintages of the same wine at the same time. While this means more booze more fun, you get a better idea of why a wine can differ so much from one year to the next.
Perhaps ageing in a bottle changes the character… or the climate, how much rainfall the vines received, were the grapes picked early?... all these factors can influence the wine's character. Having a vertical tasting can be a fun solo activity or an activity with friends (since you do have 3 or more bottles after all). Since you're discovering and exploring wines, it takes the pressure off of appearing knowledgeable about them. Have a go at our Domaine Thénard Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru vertical set- they are excellent Pinot Noir wines made by a family-owned domaine in Givry, France. With great acidity and a lengthy finish, these easy to drink Grand Crus will impress anyone. |

TASTING NOTES |
Domaine Thénard Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2016
"A less elegant but more complex nose exhibits notes of various dark berries, warm earth and distinct sauvage scents. There is better richness and power to the velvet-textured flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the robust but not especially concentrated finale. There is better phenolic maturity and thus better balance." - Burghound.
