Glenelly Estate, The Glass Collection Merlot 2018
Rated 92 points by Tim Atkin MW
Awarded Gold Medal by Veritas 2019.
At the age of 78, May de Lencquesaing, then the owner of the iconic Chateau Pichon Comtesse de Lalande, a Grand Cru Classe from Pauillac, in Bordeaux, started a new venture on South African Soil, and purchased Glenelly Estate. With a nod to the French Huguenots settlers and after cautious study of the terroir, she built a thriving winery that best utilises the soils and microclimate of the valley and supports local economic development and community.
The Merlot is a deep rich coloured wine. It displays intense dark fruit aromas and spicy plums with touches of spearmint on the edge. This Merlot shows tremendous concentration, richness and generous fruit on the palate combined with an intricate structure and well-balanced tannins.
THE GLASS COLLECTION
A true favourite of the Glenelly family, the Glass Collection Merlot was widely planted in their Bordeaux estates and is showing greatness as the vines mature.
